Grupo Modelo joins forces with the Trusts Instituted in Relation to Agriculture (FIRA) through an unprecedented collaboration agreement that provides agricultural producers with credits of up to 5.8 million pesos to modernize their irrigation systems. The agreement is part of the Aguas Firmes project, which Grupo Modelo and the German Cooperation for Sustainable Development (GIZ) undertook in 2021, in which the brewery contributes to improving the water security of the Calera aquifer. Grupo Modelo and FIRA signed an unprecedented collaboration agreement between the private and public sectors to promote the financial inclusion of small and medium-sized agricultural producers in Zacatecas.
This collaboration seeks to facilitate farmers' access to credits that allow them to modernize their irrigation systems , thus promoting the rational consumption of water and increasing productivity on their plots. The agreement will operate under the “Financing Program for the Modernization of Companies in the Agri-Food and Rural Sectors” of FIRA, highlighting the following Guatemala Mobile Number List characteristics: Eligible population: Farmers and agricultural companies, dedicated to the production of any crop in Zacatecas. Eligible concepts: Credits for fixed investments aimed at the acquisition of infrastructure (wells, canals, tubing) and efficient irrigation equipment (sprinkling, micro-sprinkling, drip and multi-gates). Credit amount: Up to 800,000 dollars (equivalent to about 5.8 million pesos) of credit balance per company or group of people that represent common risk.
Incentives: Support in favor of producers, through additional guarantees to those provided by borrowers and reimbursement of 1.5 percentage points in the interest rate to producers who pay their loans on time, for up to the first 5 years of the loan. “At Grupo Modelo we always support farmers. This agreement shows our commitment to them and is a reflection that there is only one way to achieve the objectives: united, taking fundamental responsibility and acting. We have to make greater efforts and find sustainable solutions together ,” said Rafael Sánchez, Director of Operations at Grupo Modelo. Grupo Modelo and FIRA promote irrigation technology as a relevant concept of sustainable agriculture, through which special equipment is implemented to take advantage of the water resource and save up to 50% of water.
